Okay so an upside-down crucifix is not a fucking symbol of atheism and I’m so fucking sick of people who are too stupid to work that out. I mean:
A) it’s not a symbol of atheism because it only shows opposition to christianity. And as an atheist who finds all religion quite vile, I can tell you that that’s pretty much bullshit.
And B) Christians don’t even take it to be an opposing symbol. They call it ‘the cross of st. peter’. The pope even had it on his chair one time. So Christians are likely to see it and go, ‘Oh! Another one of the flock! How lovely!’ not ‘Oh! A rotten atheist! How offensive!’, the latter being no doubt what you intended them to think.Do some fucking research.
Actually, an upside-down crucifix is offensive, and commonly used by self-described “Satanists.”
St. Peter’s Cross is an inverted empty cross.
